Fiona cv jpg-w800-h500Fiona is a spatial strategy designer and is a key member of the Spaces That Works independent consultancy. Prior to this, she worked with DEGW London (1999-2011) as a Senior Strategy Consultant in the Corporate and Learning Environments sectors.

She has worked extensively on educational projects including schools, higher education and lifelong learning and cultural projects. Her core skills are building analysis, briefing and space planning. She is experienced in the analysis of data from in-house and client sources and her particular interests lie in developing strategies and solutions that express an institution’s vision and core values.

Recent projects have included the development of the strategic brief for the Dublin City Library and the testing of several building options against the brief. To achieve this she worked closely with focus groups comprising staff and other stakeholders, developed the Spatial Brief for the Library collections and seating areas; co-ordinated the development of Performance Criteria to ensure that the chosen building could deliver the appropriate spaces and portray the desired image for the Library in line with the client’s aspirations.

Other library projects have included the development of the strategic brief for the Dublin Institute of Technology Library as part of a larger campus planning and development project at Grangegorman, the development of the strategic brief for the University of the West of England and comparison of refurbishment and new-build options for the building and the detailed planning of the Institute of Study of Muslim Civilisations/ Institute of Ismail Studies library in London (Aga Khan University) which has involved working closely with stakeholders to assess current and future collection requirements and the integration of a learning commons and other collaborative study settings into the new library (opening 2016).

Other projects that have included extensive user consultation and an iterative process of brief development have been the analysis of future space requirements of reach of the six Faculties of Aalto University, the development of the strategic brief for the National Skills Academy for Creative and Cultural Skills in Purfleet and the development of strategic briefs for the Aga Khan University campus development projects in Dar es Salaam, Nairobi and Arusha.
